The History of Locks

Today, as we enter the new millennium, we are experiencing a new cultural awakening and greater appreciation of our "natural beauty". This new Afrocentric movement is reflected by the large number of braid, twist, and lock hairstyles. However, Locks and Dreadlocks are not the same. Dreadlocks relate specifically to the Rastafarian religion; locks are of African origin and are global. Although related, locks are maintained and cultivated while dreadlocks are not.

The decision to grow locks usually reflects an outward manifestation of a person becoming aligned with their inner being, the identification of our-own "God-given" natural beauty and a readiness for a whole new "natural" way of life.
